Embedded Hardware Repair in Kenya

Embedded controller boards sit inside equipment that is hard to replace because the board is custom, undocumented or out of production. Sinsal repairs and debugs embedded hardware at the board level.

Signal analysis equipment used to diagnose embedded control board faults

Service Overview

Embedded systems combine a processor, power regulation, memory and interfaces on a board designed for one product. When one fails there may be no schematic, no spare and no vendor left. The practical question is whether the fault is electrical, in the board's hardware, or a firmware or configuration problem presenting as one.

Sinsal separates those cases by measurement. Where the fault is in the hardware, it is repaired at the component level. Where firmware or flash contents are corrupted, hardware-level recovery is covered under firmware recovery. Custom firmware development is outside this service.

Equipment We Work On

  • Microcontroller and microprocessor control boards
  • Industrial and building-automation controllers
  • Instrument and measurement-device boards
  • Gateway, telemetry and IoT hardware
  • Embedded boards from OEM and legacy products
  • Prototype and low-volume boards

Typical Failures

  • Board powers up but never starts running its program
  • Resets caused by an unstable supply rail or brown-out
  • A peripheral or communication bus that no longer works
  • Damaged crystal, regulator or reset circuitry
  • Boot failure from corrupted flash
  • Damage from reverse polarity or overvoltage on an input

Diagnostic Process

  1. 01Identify the processor, memory and regulation stages from the board itself
  2. 02Power-rail and clock checks before anything else is suspected
  3. 03Reset, boot-mode and debug-interface behaviour
  4. 04Logic analyser and oscilloscope checks on buses and peripherals
  5. 05Hardware versus firmware determination with the evidence recorded

Repair Process

  1. 01Replacement of failed regulators, crystals, protection and interface parts
  2. 02Repair of damaged tracks, pads and connectors
  3. 03Hardware recovery of flash contents where the fault is corrupted firmware

Testing and Validation

  • Rails, clocks and reset behaviour verified after repair
  • Peripheral and interface checks that the board's role requires
  • Extended power-on run, including warm-up behaviour

What You May Receive

Diagnostic findings, Repair record, Post-repair verification result.

Warranty

Completed repairs are accompanied by warranty documentation. The cover, its term and its exclusions are written on the warranty document issued with the job, so they are agreed in writing for your equipment rather than assumed. Warranty applies to the repaired fault and the work carried out, not to unrelated failures elsewhere in the equipment.

Important Limitation

Custom firmware development is not part of this service. Encrypted or locked firmware cannot always be recovered. Repairability depends on part availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Can you repair an embedded board with no schematic?

Often, using measurement and circuit tracing. Reverse engineering of the relevant section can be added where documentation does not exist.

Do you write or modify firmware?

No. Sinsal recovers and restores existing firmware at the hardware level where possible, but custom firmware development is a separate discussion.

How do you tell a hardware fault from a firmware fault?

By checking rails, clocks, reset and boot behaviour first. If the hardware is healthy and the device fails to start, corrupted firmware becomes the working hypothesis.

Have an Embedded Board That Will Not Start?

Describe the equipment and the fault. Sinsal will confirm whether it is a fit for diagnostics and repair before any work begins.
