Electronics Recovery in Kenya: Repair Before E-Waste

Equipment is often written off as e-waste because nobody checked whether the failure was repairable. Sinsal assesses retired and failed electronics to recover what can be put back into use.

Service Overview

A large share of equipment that reaches the scrap stage failed for a single, repairable reason. Assessing it first can return working units to service, supply known-good boards for use as spares and reduce what has to be disposed of. Where nothing can be recovered, you receive the finding that shows it.

This is a technical recovery service, not a waste-disposal or recycling service. Sinsal does not hold itself out as a licensed e-waste handler, and material that is not recoverable is returned to you or handled as agreed in writing. If your programme needs certified recycling, that step is separate.

Equipment We Work On

  • Retired networking and IT equipment
  • Failed industrial boards awaiting disposal
  • Surplus POS terminals and kiosks
  • Decommissioned security recorders and cameras
  • Boards from equipment that is otherwise being scrapped
  • Mixed lots from a site clearance or asset disposal

Typical Failures

  • Units written off after a single failed power component
  • Equipment replaced because the replacement quote was lower than a repair estimate that was never obtained
  • Boards with intact, working sections that could serve as spares
  • Assets whose condition was never recorded before disposal

Diagnostic Process

  1. 01Receipt and listing of each item in the lot
  2. 02Power-up and condition check of each unit
  3. 03Fault isolation on units that appear repairable
  4. 04Identification of boards worth keeping as spares
  5. 05Report of the outcome per item

Repair Process

  1. 01Units judged repairable are repaired or refurbished once you approve the scope
  2. 02Working boards identified in the lot are recorded and can be held as spares by agreement
  3. 03Items with no recovery value are reported and handled as agreed in writing

Testing and Validation

  • Recovered units are tested before being returned or held as spares
  • Test results are recorded against each item

What You May Receive

Per-item outcome report, Recovered units and spares list, Recommendations for the remainder.

Warranty

Completed repairs are accompanied by warranty documentation. The cover, its term and its exclusions are written on the warranty document issued with the job, so they are agreed in writing for your equipment rather than assumed. Warranty applies to the repaired fault and the work carried out, not to unrelated failures elsewhere in the equipment.

Important Limitation

This is a technical recovery service. It is not licensed waste disposal or certified recycling, and no environmental or recycling certification is claimed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Do you recycle or dispose of e-waste?

No. Sinsal assesses and recovers usable equipment and boards. Disposal or certified recycling of what cannot be recovered is a separate step that is not provided here.

Can you recover usable boards from equipment that is being scrapped?

Where boards are in working condition they can be identified, tested and recorded as spares, by agreement with the owner.

Is it worth assessing old equipment before disposal?

Often, because an assessment shows whether the fault is minor. It also gives you evidence for the decision either way.

Retiring Equipment That May Still Be Repairable?

Describe the equipment and the fault. Sinsal will confirm whether it is a fit for diagnostics and repair before any work begins.
