What Is PCB Failure Analysis?
20 Jan 2026
A repair fixes what broke. Failure analysis investigates why it broke — relevant when a fault is likely to recur, or when several similar units fail the same way.

When it's worth doing
Failure analysis is most useful for repeat failures on the same equipment, unusual or unexplained damage, or a batch of similar units failing in the same pattern.
What it involves
Failure-site inspection, electrical fault isolation, and comparison against other similar failures — building toward a probable mechanism, not just a symptom.
Its limits
A definitive root cause can't be established in every case — but even a probable mechanism is often enough to inform a corrective recommendation.
