Industrial electronics carry a different repair-vs-replace calculation than consumer devices — the equipment around a failed board is often what makes replacement expensive or impractical, not the board itself.

Why replacement isn't always straightforward
Industrial controllers, drives, and automation boards are frequently discontinued by the manufacturer years before the machinery they run reaches end of life. A direct replacement part may no longer exist, and a compatible substitute can mean reprogramming or re-engineering the surrounding system.
When repair is the practical choice
If the fault is isolated to a specific component — a failed capacitor, a damaged connector, a single blown output stage — component-level repair restores the exact original part number without touching the rest of the installed system.
When replacement genuinely makes more sense
Widespread thermal damage, a board that's failed multiple times already, or a case where a modern replacement is both available and cost-competitive all tip the decision toward replacement. Assessment weighs this honestly rather than defaulting to repair.
