Where the savings actually come from

A capacitor or connector typically costs a small fraction of a full replacement board or unit. Repairing at that level means the cost scales with the size of the actual fault, not the size of the whole assembly.

The lead-time cost that's easy to miss

Beyond the part cost, sourcing a discontinued or long-lead-time replacement board can leave equipment out of service for weeks. Component-level repair, where the fault is straightforward, is frequently faster because the required parts are common electronic components rather than a specific proprietary assembly.
